  • What is xli

    xli is an enhancement to xloadimage, which, itself is an enhancment of xsetroot, the standard utility for changing your desktop background in X. the major benefit of xli is that it recognizes more than just xbm files. it recognizes the following image formats:

  • FBM Image
  • Sun Rasterfile
  • CMU WM Raster
  • Portable Bit Map (PBM, PGM, PPM)
  • Faces Project
  • GIF Image
  • JFIF style jpeg Image
  • Utah RLE Image
  • Windows, OS/2 RLE Image
  • Photograph on CD Image
  • X Window Dump
  • Targa Image
  • McIDAS areafile
  • G3 FAX Image
  • PC Paintbrush Image
  • GEM Bit Image
  • MacPaint Image
  • X Pixmap
  • X Bitmap
  • xli also has a myriad of options for displaying your image, either within a window, or on the root window itself. from the command line, do a 'xli -help' for options.

    xli Subsystems

    xli includes these subsystems:

    fw_GGxli.sw.xli
    Basic software. Needed if you want to run xli
    fw_GGxli.man.xli
    xli man pages
    fw_GGxli.man.doc
    other documentation (README files, information of using desktop backgrounds)
    fw_GGxli.src.xli
    xli source code

    Installation Method

    All of the subsystems for this product can be installed using IRIX. You do not need to use the miniroot. Refer to the Software Installation Administrator's Guide for complete installation instructions.

    Compatibility

    This software is compatible with IRIX 5.3 and IRIX 6.1.
